If your passwords aren't saved in a browser or password manager and are instead stored in a document, spreadsheet, or just remembered — don't worry! Bitwarden allows you to import them using their CSV template.
This guide will walk you through how to use Bitwarden’s template to mass import your locally stored passwords.
Step 1) Download the Bitwarden Import Template
Click the link below to download Bitwarden’s official import spreadsheet:
Download Bitwarden CSV Template
This file will download as a .csv. You can open and edit it in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet program.
Step 2) Fill in Your Password Information
Open the template. You'll see columns like:
folder
favorite
type
name
notes
login_uri
login_username
login_password
Here's how to fill it out:
name – Give the entry a name (e.g., Gmail, Netflix, Bank)
login_username – Your username or email for that login
login_password – The corresponding password
login_uri – The website address (optional but recommended)
Leave any unused fields blank. You do not need to fill in every column.
Step 3) Save the File as a CSV
Once you're done filling in the template, go to:
File > Save As
Choose CSV (.csv) as the file format
Save it somewhere you'll remember — you’ll need it shortly
Part 2 of Bitwarden Setup should now be complete. Please click the below links for the next steps!
